Things that matter: a fantastic decorating book by Nate Berkus

Nate Berkus, Designer and TV host was an Oprah Winfrey find. Here, in his inspiring decorating book, he infuses his life story on every page. In The Things That Matter (published by Spiegel & Grau), Nate Berkus shares intimate stories from his life, introduces us to people who influenced him and helped him forge his sense of style, and opens up about the remarkable experiences that have left him forever changed, all of which find expression in how he lives today. From his most cherished flea market finds, to his beloved books and photos, to the many extraordinary mementos he’s collected in his travels, every piece defines who he’s become and what endures in his world. Berkus invites readers into his own home as well as into twelve others, including a sleek steel-and-glass high-rise that soars above Chicago, a rustic cottage in the Hudson Valley, an ultra-chic atelier that maximizes every inch of space, a Greenwich Village townhouse that holds multiple art collections, and a study in meaningful minimalism in Marfa, Texas. The distinctive interiors beautifully displayed in this book offer revealing portraits of their owners’ lives and the inspiring choices that have made them who they are today. The Things That Matter convincingly…

The Audrey Hepburn PhotoBook by Taschen

Bob Willoughby (1927-2009)  author of numerous books on photography took his first photo at the age of twelve. By 1954 his exhibitions of photographs of jazz musicians and dancers led to a contract with Globe Photos, followed by work at Harper’s Bazaar. After shooting Judy Garland during the filming of A Star is Born he became the first “unit photographer”, hired specifically by movie studios to take on-set promotional “stills”. In his distinguished career as a Hollywood photographer, Bob Willoughby took iconic photos of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Fonda, but remains unequivocal about his favorite subject: Audrey Kathleen Ruston, later Edda van Heemstra Hepburn-Ruston, best known as Audrey Hepburn.  Willoughby was called in to shoot the new starlet one morning shortly after she arrived in Hollywood in 1953. It was a humdrum commission for the portraitist often credited with having perfected the photojournalistic movie still, but when he met the Belgian-born beauty, Willoughby was enraptured. “She took my hand like…well a princess, and dazzled me with that smile that God designed to melt mortal men’s hearts,” he recalled. As Hepburn’s career soared following her Oscar-winning US debut in Roman Holiday, Willoughby became a trusted friend, framing her working and home life. His historic, perfectionist, tender photographs seek out the…

The definitive Gustav Klimt Paintings Book

The definitive Gustav Klimt Paintings Book – Gustav Klimt, Complete Paintings (published by Taschen) is the definitive book of this amazing painter, considered the Prince of Decadence. His paintings leaves no one indifferent! Tobias G. Natter worked at the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna for fifteen years. In 2014 he founded Natter Fine Art, which focuses on the development and implementation of exhibitions and on research. The countless events being held to celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth make a clear statement to the enduring appreciation for the work of Gustav Klimt. Not that it takes such a special occasion for the press and the public to start talking about Klimt. More than two hundred articles about the artist appeared online in August 2011 alone, in comparison with barely seventy on Rembrandt within the same period. This media publicity set editor Tobias G. Natter thinking about the value of compiling the present book. During his lifetime, Klimt was a controversial star whose works made passions run high; he stood for Modernism but he also embodied tradition. His pictures polarized and divided the art-loving world. Journalists and general public alike were split over the question: For or against Klimt?  See also: Book Review: Frida Kahlo Fashion As…
