Book Review: GUCCI New Book – Blind For Love – Released in a limited edition of 2,000, Blind for Love presents inspirational and backstage photographs by noted British artist Nick Waplington documenting the Gucci Cruise 2017 collection runway show, which was held in one of London’s most historic landmarks, the Cloisters in Westminster Abbey. Book Review: The Life and Fashions of Elsa Schiaparelli  – Shocking pink—hot pink, as it is called today—was the signature color of Elsa Schiaparelli (1890–1973) and perhaps her greatest contribution to the fashion world. Hot Pink—printed with a fifth color, hot pink!—explores Schiaparelli’s childhood in Rome, her introduction to high fashion in Paris, and her swift rise to success collaborating with surrealist and cubist artists like Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau. See also: Stylish Reading Nooks that will Inspire You The book includes an author’s note, a list of museums and websites where you can find Schiaparelli’s fashions, endnotes, a bibliography, and an index. “A studied account of the innovative and impulsive fashion legend that’s likely to inspire budding designers of any age.” — Kirkus Reviews “On broad pages appropriately accented with shocking pink and peppered with well-reproduced photos, Rubin…

Book Review: Radical Renaissance 60

Book Review: Radical Renaissance 60 – “Denim was freedom, denim was the biggest dream,” says Renzo Rosso of the early days of Diesel, the casual denim brand that he launched in 1978. Today, Rosso stands at the helm of OTB, the alternative luxury fashion group that encompasses Diesel, Maison Margiela, Marni, Viktor&Rolf, Staff International, and Brave Kid. These companies are connected by the same streak of rebellion that has marked Rosso’s own career—a sense of going against the grain and a commitment to creation that goes above and beyond commercial restraints. Each brand embodies Rosso’s mantra, “only the brave, challenging the rules, fostering creativity,” and promotes, first and foremost, the proud label of fashion “Made in Italy.” See also: Book Review: New Bar and Club Design by Bethan Ryder Radical Renaissance 60 traces the evolution of this forward-thinking group of companies that bring humanity and philanthropy to the workplace and marry craftsmanship with industrial production. Book Review: A Royal Collection Of Gems And Jewels – This very special limited edition has been designed like a jewel box for one of the most precious books Assouline has ever published. The clamshell case, constructed of one piece of shaped wood, is covered and lined with velvet and has a magnetic closure. This pattern and type of textile has an ancient history, yet the techniques were nearly lost 200 years ago, when the Tibetan region became inaccessible to outsiders due to geopolitical tensions. In the 1930s, a Russian came to Varanasi desiring to re-create these traditional Tibetan brocades. As this type of work is extremely…

Book Review: New Book by Brazilian jeweler H.Stern

See also: Book review: Carrier and Company – Positively Chic Now celebrating seventy years of tradition and innovation, Brazilian jeweler H.Stern was crowned “the king of colored gemstones” by Time magazine. In 1945, Hans Stern fell in love with precious jewels. At a small office in Rio de Janeiro, he created what was to become the largest jeweler in Brazil and Latin America—and one of the most celebrated in the world. H.Stern’s first fifty years are characterized by vivid aquamarine, amethyst, and topaz gems, mirroring the vivid hues and pulsing energy of Brazil that German-born Stern found so fascinating when he moved there. Before his influence, the jewelry industry’s focus remained on diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, but H.Stern’s unique and striking pieces quickly made Brazilian colored gemstones desirable and valuable. Current artistic director Roberto Stern, building on the technical foundations laid down by his father, has led the company into the present, collaborating with some of the world’s most fascinating creative minds—from Tim Burton to Diane von Furstenberg to Grupo Corpo—to design spellbinding collections for the modern woman.   While continuing to emphasize Hans Stern’s value of craftsmanship, today’s H.Stern is defined by subtle yet daring and inventive pieces—the glittering results…
