Book Review: In The Spirit Of Rio

Book Review: In The Spirit Of Rio – Rio de Janeiro is the “Cidade Maravilhosa” that greets everyone with friendly faces and open arms. Its magic begins with its natural beauty, which has amazed travelers since the first explorers landed in the sixteenth century and has inspired countless artists, designers, architects, poets, and musicians for more than 450 years.   The massive statue of Christ the Redeemer on top of Corcovado mountain watches over the sea and the mountains, the concrete jungle and the world’s largest urban forest, the simple colonial facades of churches concealing rich baroque interiors, and the scantily clad bodies that parade the beaches, where all classes gather in the democracy of bikinis and sungas. But the attraction of this unique place is even deeper; it lives in the hearts of its citizens, the cariocas, who, no matter where they go, radiate the sun they so revere. Generous, creative, open-minded, and in constant motion, they are a people of all colors and creeds, which, despite the difficulties of social and class divisions, never loses its morale, its smiles, and its faith in the victory over the daily battles of the human condition. Epicenter of the colorful explosion…

Book Review: A Royal Collection Of Gems And Jewels

Book Review: A Royal Collection Of Gems And Jewels – This very special limited edition has been designed like a jewel box for one of the most precious books Assouline has ever published. The clamshell case, constructed of one piece of shaped wood, is covered and lined with velvet and has a magnetic closure. See also: Book Review: Hôtel Plaza Athénée The book in its clamshell are inserted into a box printed blue and gold to reflect the brocade cover, and the carton is lined with foam to prevent shipping damage. A specially dyed ribbon has been embedded in the base of the clamshell to carefully lift the book from its storage. The brocade for the hardcover of this special limited edition is handwoven in India from indigo-colored silk and gold metallic threads, reflecting the traditional Tibetan artistic palette, to create a dynamically rich fabric worthy of a maharaja. This pattern and type of textile has an ancient history, yet the techniques were nearly lost 200 years ago, when the Tibetan region became inaccessible to outsiders due to geopolitical tensions. In the 1930s, a Russian came to Varanasi desiring to re-create these traditional Tibetan brocades. As this type of work is extremely…
