Photography Book: Gucci’s Limited Edition Book by Derek Ridgers – Italian luxury label Gucci is about to launch a limited edition book showcasing the label’s pre-fall collection, with pictures lensed by photographer Derek Ridgers. The book, titled “Hortus Sanitatis” — which means “The Garden of Health” in Latin — takes its title from the earliest natural history encyclopedia, published in 1485 in Germany. ‘Hortis Sanitatis’ connects nature, fashion, and punk photograph.
The images were shot in immaculate traditional places in Rome, ranging from diverse antique libraries to Antica Spezieria di Santa Maria della Scala, an ancient apothecary. Shot by photographer Derek Ridgers, who is appreciated for his documentation of subcultures, the book features all of the best bits of Michele’s Gucci that we have come to understand and admire.

Aside from the dreamy clothes and accessories that are naturally colorfully printed with lots of sparkle for good measure, they’re also accompanied by animals like cats and snakes. Though sadly, no skateboarding model holding a peacock. Encased in a pale-blue cover with gold leaf showing, which also adorn the page edges of the whole book, it appears with a red cotton pouch showcasing a skull and crossbones and will be reduced to a limited print-run of 1,000 copies.
Within its pages is a set of black and white and color images representing male and female models wearing outfits of the label’s pre-fall collection. The book will be officially launched at the Comme des Garçons Trading Museum on July 5th in Paris with a special book-signing event.
